Dr. Alan B. Shaw, DDS, MD is excited to provide care for the community of Orange County. As an oral surgeon with both medical and dental degrees, he is backed by training at some of the top universities and training programs in the nation. Through a solid foundation of oral and maxillofacial surgery knowledge, communication skills, and great chairside manner, Dr. Shaw seeks to create an office environment that is comfortable, safe, and efficient for his patients and his referring dentists.

Extensive Educational Background

Dr. Shaw attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA where he graduated in three years with a bachelor of science in biological sciences. He obtained his doctorate in dentistry from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, CA. He was valedictorian of his class, and received honors including induction into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Phi Kappa Phi, and Tau Kappa Omega Honor Societies, the Dean’s Scholarship, and more. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency and doctorate in medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Continuing Education & Memberships

Dr. Shaw has undergone extensive training in the major aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including but not limited to anesthesia, treatment of medically complex patients, dental implants, dental extractions, wisdom teeth removal, repair and reconstruction of the maxillofacial region, pathology, and orthognathic surgery. He has certifications in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, and advanced trauma life support. He is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Orange County Dental Society, American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and California Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Committed to the Community

Outside of the office, Dr. Shaw enjoys spending time with his wife, Julianne, a general dentist, and goldendoodle named Skip, and doing outdoor activities including hiking, camping, swimming, surfing, and disc sports.
